Snow geese migrate through this area every year on their way back to their nesting grounds in Canada. There is a nature preserve with a lake near here where they stop every year - sometimes up to 150,000 of them at once. This year the lake was frozen for so long they couldn't get here. As soon as there was a very little bit of water they starting arriving. When there were 75,000 of them there I took the kids to see them. I was afraid we would miss them if we waited very long since it was so late and they were trying very hard to get north in time to lay their eggs. However, we only saw about 5 geese. They were all in fields instead of on the mostly frozen lake.
Piper with most of a gummy snake. (There is a candy store that the kids like to go to near where we go to see the geese.)
Briar staying warm in the wrap and a blanket.
The arrow is pointing to the geese. The white in that field is geese not snow. (The white in front of the geese is the lake.) There is a road through there but they don't do winter maintenance on it so it only opens after the snow is gone.
We did get to see chicks at the garden center afterwards.
This is Piper with an entire gummy snake. They were really huge.
