too far

Piper was walking Crosby to the car, but for some reason they walked right past the door and kept going.

warm

This is Crosby's new blanket. I had just finished making it and laid it down on the floor to see the whole thing, and he came running and giggling and laid down on the middle of it and grinned.

donut

Crosby got this donut ate the market last week. He sat in the stroller and sucked on that same piece for about 15 before he actually ate any of it.

owls

We dissected some owl pellets last week. If anyone doesn't know what an owl pellet is - owls swallow their prey whole or in pieces and then regurgitate all the bones, fur and such that can't be digested in a kind of oblong ball called a pellet. (Here are some pictures of owl pellets.) If you take one apart you can see what the owl ate. I ordered ours online. They were heat treated so none of us contracted and bird or rodent diseases or anything.

Waiting to start.

Rory showing a bone she found. We had a chart showing what the bones were and what animal they came from, but it didn't really help much. We could tell that our owls had only eaten rodents and not birds from the skulls we found and the lack of feathers. But, we couldn't really tell which rodent. They also eat insects and such.

A skull.

A jawbone.

These are all the bones from Piper's pellet.

shoes

Crosby has never worn shoes before other than a soft pair last winter just to keep his socks on. I've tried a pair on him a couple of times just to see what size he wears and he hated them and screamed. Last week when the weekend forecast said it was supposed to go down to 48 degrees I decided he might need to start wearing shoes. This was the result of trying some on.

I thought it was going to take weeks to get him to wear them without being mad, but it ended up only taking a few days. He even likes wearing them now.

more bird watching part 2

If you look closely there is a heron in the center of the picture on the dam.

Posing in front of a duck in the nature center.

Gage measuring his wing span.

Pushing the buttons.

Coloring.

Being deer.

Candy! There is a big candy store not far from Middle Creek so we stopped and got some candy. I think it was the first time Crosby ever got to eat in the car. He's eating one of those ice cream cones with marshmallow on top. He loved it.

more bird watching

We attempted to go bird watching again last week. We didn't have much better luck than last time. We went to Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area and went around the tour road. We have never been there when the tour road was open - only in the winter to see the snow geese. I thought we would at least be able to see a lot of water fowl, but we didn't. We saw a lot of gold finches, some turkey vultures, a couple hawks, a few egrets and a few herons.

Some milkweed bugs.

Crosby getting a ride.

Some seeds that Rory pulled out of something and wanted me to take a picture of.
