bird watching

We've been learning about birds so the kids and I went bird watching at Wildwood last week.

Looking for animals and footprints under the boardwalk.

This Rory using the bird call. We went supplied with a bird call, a field guide, binoculars and 2 bird apps (Merlin Bird ID is very fast, easy and accurate if anyone is interested) but, we saw less birds than normal. We saw a couple great blue herons and some egrets, a green heron, a catbird and a hummingbird - nothing we couldn't recognize on our own. We still looked them up with an app to hear their calls, but we didn't get to find any new ones. We saw two birds we couldn't recognize but they were too hidden to figure out what they were. We did get to see a lot of different birds at the feeders outside of the nature center. And we got to see a nest and some feathers and read a lot of bird books in the nature center.

We also saw a white tailed doe and fawn. They were actually closer than they look in the pictures.

And a frog.
