The other day Adam and were talking about getting guinea pigs or something for the kids. Then a couple days later my mom mentioned that my brother might be getting rid of his. So, we now have 2 guinea pigs. The white one is named Green and the brown and black one is named purple.

children's festival part 2
Dancing Crosby.
Making lacquered stones.
A rug making scavenger hunt. We went on a scavenger hunt to learn all about how rugs are made. And the kids even got to wear headlamps! It turns out making a rug by hand is incredibly difficult and time consuming. After the scavenger hunt it seemed like the $7000 rugs were actually quite a bargain. (Ten Thousand Villages only sells fair trade products so they were fairly priced, but it's still rather impressive how much work is actually involved in making one.) Here is information about how they are made if anyone is interested.
This is the tunnel under a pile of rugs where we found the lost sheep.
This is Rory.
This one is Gage.
And this is Piper emerging from the tunnel.
Designing their own rugs.
The prizes at the end of the scavenger hunt - mini rugs.

children's festival
We went to the International Children's Festival at Ten Thousand Villages on Saturday. It has crafts and activities from cultures around the world. Here are a few pictures from last year's festival.
Here are the kids drawing water from a well and trying to carry water on their shoulders. Gage isn't actually tall enough to get the buckets off the ground.
On a Komboomba Trek. Each of the kids pushed a little man on a bicycle (a Komboomba) on a path around the store to different checkpoints with activities or information about different parts of the world.
Trying out instruments - I think these were called thumb pianos.
Card making.
Making pencil pouches.
I believe this game is from somewhere in Africa. I wasn't there when the man was explaining it to them, so I'm not sure and I also don't know the name of it. You play by throwing a ball into the air and the picking up a stick off the ground before the ball bounces. I'm not sure there was a child there who could actually play. There were balls rolling all over the place.

still walking
Some more walk pictures.
A turtle on a rock.
Turtle action shot - in the process of jumping off the rock.
The giant guy behind Rory in the picture above is William Penn. I'm not sure what Crosby thinks he is, but he thinks he growls - a lot. I was trying to make a video of him growling, but as soon as he sees himself on the phone screen he gets excited and quits growling. For some reason he keeps pointing to himself and saying, "Daddy" in both videos. I don't know why - when he sees himself in a mirror he says, "Crosby".
Crosby calls all Transformers (and random other toys) Bumble Bee. Gage thinks its hilarious that he thinks all Transformers have the same name.
Trying on a helmet at Goodwill on the way home.
Crosby had no intention of ending his nap when we got home.

walking
Some pictures from a walk the kids and I took on Friday.
Looking for treasure. We came home with tons of snail shells and goose feathers, a bobber, a bone and a piece of plastic.
Rory with a snail shell.
More treasure hunting.
King of the geese.

The nest is above my head even when i stand on a chair so some of the pictures are a bit cut off since I can't see what I'm taking a picture of.
