chrysanthemums

We made another trip to Longwood Gardens on Saturday. My mom, the kids and I went to see their chrysanthemum display. They have thousands and thousands of them. It was really nice. They have them bred and trained into all kinds of shapes and sizes that don't even look like mums anymore.

The kids really liked this cat. They were very impressed that it was nice and let them pet it.

This is one single chrysanthemum plant. It took seventeen months to grow and has over 1,000 flowers on it.

A katydid that came inside to keep warm.

Looking at the water.

A mum arch.

These mum balls actually go up at the ceiling. They move them up and down with electric controls that the kids thought were really cool. They had them down to water them.

Green mums.

Piper looking at purple mums. She stopped at every purple flower we saw to look at it and to smell it. (If anyone is unaware, she is obsessed with purple.)

More purple mums.

And Rory hugging purple mums.
